The ground rules

Terms of use

Please read these terms. By using HygieneCheck you agree to them.

Information only

HygieneCheck is provided for general information. It republishes official food hygiene rating data from the Food Standards Agency to help you find and compare ratings. It is not advice, and it is not a substitute for the official record at ratings.food.gov.uk.

Ratings may be out of date

Each rating reflects the last published inspection of a business and is shown with its inspection date. Standards can change between inspections, and there can be a short delay between a council updating a rating and the change appearing here. A rating is therefore a snapshot, not a live or guaranteed statement of current conditions.

No warranty

The site and its content are provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including as to accuracy, completeness, timeliness or fitness for a particular purpose. While we take care to present the source data faithfully, we do not verify individual inspections and cannot guarantee that every record is current or error-free. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we accept no liability for any loss or damage arising from reliance on the information on this site. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited.

Data ownership and corrections

The food hygiene ratings remain the property of the Food Standards Agency and the local authorities that produce them. Contains public sector information licensed under the Open Government Licence v3.0. Food hygiene rating data © Food Standards Agency / Crown copyright. To query or correct a rating, see correct a listing — corrections are made by the relevant local authority, not by us.

Acceptable use

You may use HygieneCheck for your own lawful, personal or business research. Please do not use the site in any way that is unlawful, that attempts to disrupt or overload it, or that scrapes content in breach of these terms or the underlying licence. The official open data is freely available under the Open Government Licence — see our data & licensing page if you need the dataset itself.
